Bio: Kings & Queens play darkly psychedelic space-pop. They are from Nevada City, California.
British songwriter Rich Good co-founded San Francisco indie darlings ‘The Pleased’ ... (more)
with Noah Georgeson and Joanna Newsom back in 2001. Since the demise of the Pleased, time spent in the forest of the Sierra Nevada and under the hot skies of the Mojave yielded a new song book. This new music trips down the mountains to the scrubby desert, landscape affecting sound. There's a restless tension in these songs that will get under your skin; a layer cake of delayed guitars and analog organs twist and grind while harmony vocals float above a relentless rhythm section. A distinct sound all their own but sparkling with tints of Neu!, Roxy Music, Nick Drake, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac... so bright, so dark.
Over the last couple of years Kings & Queens wrote and recorded a full album, scrapped it, self-released a seven-track EP, toured the west coast including shows with Bat For Lashes, Citay and Aaron Ross, contributed to the Grass Roots Record Co. Family Album and recorded songs for a audio art installation in the UK. The band is now preparing to release its debut album in early 2008.
The current Kings & Queens lineup consists of Rich and Andrea Good, Jonathan Hischke and David Torch.

oh god, things have been slow in this new year, like moving through treacle... seems that all the shows got cancelled and all the snow ended up on our roof.
Enough of that, we lost the Psychedelic furs to illness and Sonic Boom to well, San Francisco planning difficulties... so now we at least have a couple shows in the local realm this weekend. With good and hot bands and at warm and cosy venues.
we don't get out much.
