"From where no one belongs, I will sing..."
Location: Copenhagen, Denmark
Bio: In 1995 I bought a bag, it was blue and shaped in soft curves that made me think of a female body. Inside it I ... (more) found one of the first electric massage devices, made in the early 60's - at that time it must have been considered very daring. It was called Jomi Massage. The manual showed me pictures of naked women, nipples and skin. The words where about removing physical tensions, as headaches or tight shoulders. Right now, an evening in November 2001, I imagine the salesman, walking from door to door, ringing bells in the afternoon, hoping to sell this product to suburban housewives. I wonder how he did it, did he ever blush and who bought them? Was it the kinky ones or maybe unhappy ones? Back in 1999 I felt like making music without thinking. Music about tensions, in sound and lyrics. The rules were simple: don´t look or listen back and don´t think ahead. Emotional punk? I don't know. What I found was an insisting flow of imperfect sounds and melodies, someone hunting to frame what is fragile and express what is violent. Now I am trying to remember how I thought of naming this project after that blue bag of mine. I can't, but I know that I believe tensions can be removed by giving them space and attention. Jomi Massage is either composed on my old fashioned, but adored 4-track recorder or in my head. But I love sharing the songs with other musicians to see where they will bring them. Capturing moments has so many faces and curiosity keeps my world spinning. I hope you will enjoy the music. (less)
