- Bio: Jahdan Blakkamoore is a Brooklyn local hero. Beloved for his charismatic stage presence, pointed lyrics, and powerful voice, Jahdan brings the perspective of Rasta sufferation to the streets of post 9/11 New York City.
Making his first impact with NYC's golden-era street rap legends Boot Camp Clique, Jahdan has been bridging the gap between hiphop, dancehall and roots reggae ever since, collaborating with artists ranging from DJ Premiere and Afu-ra to Dead Prez, and jazz great Branford Marsalis.
Jahdan was introduced to the sound of the UK Grime upon working with 77Klash & Team Shadetek for the street smash "Brooklyn Anthem". Excited by the viral success of that tune -- it sparked a YouTube dance craze among the Caribbean teens of NYC, leading to over a hundred cellphone vids of kids dancing to it! -- Jahdan has linked up with Rupture and Matt Shadetek to continue exploring the urban underground via the We Are Raiders EP, and forthcoming album, Buzzrock Warrior.
Recorded over 2 months by the team of Matt Shadetek, DJ Rupture, and Geko Jones, We Are Raiders EP is the flagship release on Dutty Artz, the new multimedia tropical storm dedicated to exploring global underground sounds from their wildstyle NYC perspective, soaking in the reggae, rap, latino, and african scenes in the city. The EP finds Jahdan on deep dub-inflected Cumbia beats from Buenos Aires by Chancha Vía Circuito, synthetic Dancehall from Vienna's Stereotyp, plus two riddims from lifelong Manhattanite Shadetek which reflect and bend the dubstep sound.
The Buzzrock Warrior album -- coming this summer! -- features JD at the heights of his powers, with vocals by Durrty Goodz, 77Klash, and production from Modeselektor, Matt Shadetek, DJ Rupture, and more.
