Bio: You got your dark times and you got your happy times. We are somewhere in the middle. We write happy songs about not so ... (more) happy things, with the intention of making the awful seem not so bad. If you feel that we have made the not so bad seem awful then we have failed, and we apologise. For all the fatalism in the lyrics, there are hints of rapprochement, renewal, maybe even a happy ending and that even when you think the world is going down the toilet, you have no choice but to be hopeful and root for things to improve. You never know who will pop in the door or what will happen next. This is Grand Pocket Orchestra in a nutshell, and they are yours for the keeping. After a rapturous forum Incursion in 2007, GPO was finally created. Numerous comings and goings then followed after cult members had lured participants away with Chocolate and Marzipan. In the months since, a solid line up of musicians who did not like sugar was formed. The lack of a saccharine coating then led the cult towards a musical journey of semi-bittersweet dialect. Call it indie-pop, art-rock or just musical mayhem, but GPO are a band like no other. 2007 saw the band rise continually through the Irish Indie Scene, playing festivals from their formation, winning Hotpress' Magazines Music Video contest as well as creating a scene in themselves. 2008 is set to be a huge year for the band after signing with prominent Irish indie label, Fifa Records as well as featuring on US compilation 'Future Sounds'. GPO released their debut EP in Ireland on February 1, with an extensive Irish tour as well as promotional dates in the UK and Germany. The band is currently recording with Mario Thaler (The Notwist, Lali Puna) for their debut album.
