Bio: Fanfarlo are a London based six-piece formed around Swedish exile Simon Aurell. Straying from the standard guitar based line-up, they incorporate a whole host of ... (more)
acoustic instruments including trumpet, mandolin, violin, saw, glockenspiel and homemade contraptions in their lush folk-tinged songs that sound like the school marching band got lost in the woods and decided to have a disco.
Influenced by artists like Broken Social Scene, Sufjan Stevens, Beirut, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Verlaines and Neutral Milk Hotel, the music is not based on fashion or fad, but instead they are creating timeless pop songs, telling stories, melting your heart and making you dance.
After 7” releases on Label Fandango (Fierce Panda offshoot who have discovered many a pop talent, including Coldplay, Ash and Keane), and Fortuna Pop!, London based purveyors of noise and anarchy, White Heat, made a swift 360 to release Fanfarlo’s third limited edition double A-side single, ‘Fire Escape’, a rare treasure of a song, backed with ‘We Live By The Lake’ - showcasing their ability to utilize swells of strings and brass for a delicate but effective result.
They’ve also been gaining steadfast support from UK national radio, with live sessions for BBC Radio 1 (In New music We Trust), BBC Radio 4 (Loose Ends), BBC 6 Music (Marc Riley) and XFM (John Kennedy), as well as bagsying Steve Lamacq’s single of the week on BBC 6 Music.
Fanfarlo have had a brilliant 2007 - a nod of approval from King David of Bowie, three sold out singles, shows all across Europe, Amazon in the US proclaiming them a “Hot New Release” without actually having released owt in the US, BBC America playlisting ‘…Outsiders’,
AND they’ve just completed the demos for their debut album (recorded in Simon’s rather snug living room), of which you have a taster (‘Sand & Ice’). They look forward to conquering the rest of the world in 2008.
