  • Bio: Black Flag, Duchess Says's second release on Summer Lovers Unlimited, has been a long time coming. Since the 2005 release of the blistering, succinct electro-punk masterpiece Noviciat Mere-Perruche, we and the band have dealt with near break-ups to make-ups, transatlantic bidding wars, lost masters, infinite sharks, one-in-a-million manufacturing disasters, the sadness of watching Duchess's closest friends and touring buddies Les Georges Leningrad close up shop, and all manner of eeeevil forces seemingly conspiring to keep Black Flag from ever seeing the light of day. Well too bad, baddies!

"Black Flag," the centerpiece track, is a slashy, stomping synthpunk number whose lyrically perfect, vaguely religious/gothic hook defined the band's sound from the outset. First up with a "Black Flag" remix is The Juan Maclean, who happened to befriend us when Juan learned of Duchess Says' lifelong obsession with 6FS after hearing their incredible "Rabies" cover. After becoming fast friends, they toured together for a bit and Juan blessed us with a gorgeous, gliding dancefloor-ready remix of "Black Flag" that we promised to put on wax. Now here it is. Epic.
