  • Bio:
Dublin Duck Dispensary is Bobby Aherne, a prolific and moisturised young Irish boy who makes music in his bedroom with aspirations of sounding like an early 20th century pop group recording inside of a late 21st century reverberated robopod.

After thousands of downloads, 2008's 'Luanqibazao' album became the most popular record on Dutch label Rack and Ruin Records within a day of its release, and was declared "the best Irish album released this year" from some quarters (well, from a couple of quarters, but that makes a half). The follow-up EP 'Yykes Basket' popped its dirty - but happy - head into this world on February 11th, with its initial run selling out on the same day (coincidentally - or not - the DDD supported Wavves that night, a show which led one online commentator to remark: "I enjoyed Wavves but I think I preferred Dublin Duck Dispensary's set". And no, I did NOT make up thisquote!). Taking its title from the National Geographic photograph of a soaring hot air balloon which inspired this venture (as well as the countless picnics I vainly hope to soundtrack this spring), 'Yykes Basket' (DDD's seventh release) is a 3 inch/8cm piece of plastic. That's a fact.

Opening with The What (a traditional Irish jig fucked over with a beat and fuzz), along the way we're also introduced to beloved characters such as the Morris dancing anti-depressant Be Happy, the surf-pop boogie of Shoot The Curl, and the galloping distorto-guitar/electro beat/harmonic-accordion combo that is Toy Factory (sample lyric: "I think King Midas must have sexually abused you when you were younger"). It's a love song. I think.

But dispensing ducks is a full-time business (and one seemingly unaffected by the global money plop), as the next few months will also herald the release of a split 7" record, an acoustic EP recorded on the beach, and a full-length album. All before the summer. Quaaack.
