Bio: Teen songwriter and producer Christoph Andersson didn't exactly have the upbringing associated with that of a budding pop electro sensation, yet at age 18 he stands poised to break into that market in a very big way. Born in Washington D.C., Christoph spent his next two years in Germany before relocating to his current city New Orleans as a toddler. In the town long associated with either Jazz or Metal, Christoph was more or less left to his own musical devices. A musician from the beginning, Christoph picked up a guitar before he could walk, and at the beginning of his high school career entered NOCCA (New Orleans Center for Creative Arts) intent on making music his career. Unsatisfied with a series of indie rock groups, the multi-instrumentalist and vocalist struck out on his own, quickly releasing an impressive string of singles and remixes in his first year of production and picking up DJ gigs in the area.
In mid 2009, Christoph hooked up with a small group of young area producers and DJs to form TKVR, a monthly party and musician collective, which in less than a year has grown tenfold from humble beginnings as a 50 person Wednesday night event into a full on weekend rager, pulling in 500+ people consistently.
Christoph's tight, funk influenced basslines are instantly catchy, in part a nod to New Orleans legends like The Meters, whose hit "Fire On the Bayou" Christoph reworked into an up-tempo secret weapon for southern dance floors. His melodies are the stuff of pop lore. "You know when you hear a song the first time, and you swear you've heard on the radio before? That's how I feel every time Christoph sends me a new track. His consistency is almost scary. He's got this ability to suck up the songwriting lessons not only from contemporary electro acts like Chromeo and Ratatat, but also from far reaching songwriting heavyweights Philip Glass and Ryuichi Sakamoto, all with a healthy dose of French house" says TKVR member John Braun.
Fall 2010 will see the release of Christoph's debut EP. Riding on the strength of his feel-good house single "TUXEDO", whose initial release garnered positive reactions from several online music outlets, Christoph debuted the track live this summer to 500 sweaty, dancing fans at the party he helped build. Now armed with nearly a full set of original material, Christoph is all to eager to spread his music outside of the Deep South. (less)
