- Bio: Picking up where he left off after producing the first ever completely original soundtrack for a skateboard film for Flip Skateboards Extremely Sorry, UK born, LA based premier league Producer, BARON, has created the soundtrack for Volcom’s hotly anticipated new snowboard film, 9191.
9191 is the accumulation of Gigi Rüf’s travels and visions from one season, filmed around the globe on 16mm film, super 8 and HD video. Complimenting the 22 minutes of onscreen action from first descents in Alaska to traversing massive gaps in Austria, is the film’s start-to-finish original score (the first ever for a snowboard film) composed by BARON that includes musical collaborations with the likes of Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Oliver Ackermann (A Place to Bury Strangers), Jamie Blake, Mike Conte (Early Man), Hesta Prynn and Jaime Lynn.
Previously best known in the UK for his Drum & Bass productions and work with record label Breakbeat Kaos (BARON’s 2006/2007 tracks, “At The Drive In” and “Drive in, Drive by” both reached the #1 spot on the UK Dance Charts and featured heavily on Zane Lowe & Annie Mac’s Radio 1 shows), BARON was introduced to the rest of the world when he composed the original soundtrack for Flip Skateboards Extremely Sorry in 2009. Extremely Sorry was BARON’s first step outside the electronica world and showcased a broad array of musical styles and featured a plethora of musical guests, including Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Stephen McBean (Black Mountain), and Mike Conte (Early Man). Extremely Sorry went on to win the coveted Transworld Skateboarding Award for “Best Film” in June 2010. This soundtrack spawned the cover version "Stand By Me" where BARON brought together Lemmy and Lombardo for vocal and drum duties respectively.
With work beginning on the soundtrack for 9191 in April 2010, it was been a race against time to conceive and create the wholly original score for the film’s digital release on September 13th and DVD release on September 26th (which will include a free digital download of the soundtrack). The result of this flurry of creativity is a dark and driving nine-song soundtrack that is as good on its own as it is paired with the footage of one of the world’s legendary snowboarders hurling himself down the sides of massive snow-covered mountains. The 9191 Soundtrack by BARON will be released digitally on August 31, 2010. (less)
