Happy New Year! The best thing about 2007 by far was the rise in amazing dance music, and one of the blogs that kept us up to date with all the great happenings was Slap You In Public, the domain of NY DJ and Brooklyn Vegan contributor David Bruno. David just posted a great mix called "Winter in Sa Trincha" to help you through your inevitable hangovers, so slap it on your iTunes and put it on repeat.

Anyone who was at Grizzly Bear’s show this fall at the NY Society for Ethical Culture knows it was special—Paul Simon was in the crowd and the band performed rare versions of a bunch of their most loved songs. Stereogum just named the performance their number one show of 2007, so if you’re lacking in cool stuff to read today go over there and check out year-end mini-reviews about Battles, Cornelius, Mastodon and more.

Curses!, the live moniker of NY DJ and Trouble & Bass member Drop the Lime, is about to blow up. He’s the first American signing to French dance mega-label Institubes and was featured in the NME this month as one of their favorite new bands. Trash Menagerie has just featured a Drop the Lime remix of Curses!’s “This is the Way” (meta!) so make sure to party to some fiery guerilla disco before you go out tonight.

The parties keep rolling in—and the guys at Fool’s Gold have all the hookups for an awesome New Year’s Eve. If you’re in LA, obviously you have to ring in the new year at HARD NYE (which we have mentioned before) where A-Trak will be spinning alongside Justice and 2 Live Crew. Meanwhile in San Francisco, Fool’s' main man Nick Catchdubs will be holding down the Temple with Diplo, and if you’re north of the border, Jokers of the Scene will be partying in Montreal at SAT with Guns ‘n’ Bombs, Curses! And Crystal Castles, while in Toronto, Flosstradamus will be DJ-ing The Social.Until Apple invent a portable teleportation device for Macbooks, you’ll have to choose between just one of these shindigs, but looks like they’ll each be amazing in their own way.

Foals have been one of the biggest underground success stories of 2007, with every magazine and punter salivating for their upcoming debut album. It’s been rumored that none of the songs that have made them popular thus far will be featured on the upcoming record, as the band are already keen on reinventing themselves (when their debut single was released not a year ago!). Thank the stars for 17 Seconds then, who are featuring some of Foals’ "earlier" stuff today.

The one post-holidays party everyone is buzzing about is the RZA show this Saturday at the Hiro Ballroom in NYC. As if the prospect of seeing one of hip hop’s most legendary players in the flesh wasn’t enough of a reason to go, the official DJ of the night is none other than Fool’s Gold’s very own Nick Cathdubs. Check out the Fool’s Gold RCRD LBL blog for more info, and we’ll see you down the front.

Fool’s Gold has gone remix crazy and are featuring accapellas from a couple tracks off of Chromeo’s Fancy Footwork LP, so fans can mess around and create their own iconic dance jams. Check it out and send them your best work, who knows, maybe you’ll make the next international dance floor banger…

In which we go back to Disco Workout, Baron von Luxxury’s blog, and discuss the fact that they love Sinéad O’Connor almost as much as we do. To our great pleasure, they have posted an awesome Johnatron remix of "Nothing Compares 2 U" (which was, of course, already a Prince cover), which is as electro-damaged as it is ‘80s retro. Late contender for our favorite remix of the year.
