MIXTAPE: King L - Drilluminati

If you've been awaiting King L’s major label debut Dope & Shrimp, there's no way you'll be disappointed by the Chicago rapper’s latest mixtape effort Drilluminati – a thoughtful peek into the depth, breadth and (yes) potential of the hyped drill subgenre. Offering-up submerged production, radio-ready club jams and even a couple R&B hooks for the skeptical girlfriends in the house, Drilluminati hits a lot of bases for a mixtape. And aside from the Juicy J and Pusha T-assisted “My Hoes They Do Drugs” (high on my list of best-curated features of 2012), we’re spared the throw-everyone-I-know-on-it treatment favored by the French Montanas of the world.
