ALBUM STREAM: Fatima Al Qadiri - Desert Strike
Back in the ol' mid-aughts, I was more than a little into grime. OK, I was one of those obsessive grime fanboys, collecting ripped tapes of pirate radio freestyles over insane playstation beats like they were musical transmissions from a depressed, sterile, other planet. On Desert Strike, a new EP from NY-based producer Fatima Al Qadiri, grime tones are used to create an 'abstract audio memoir' of the First Gulf War. It's a beautiful, intense, rumbling affair, dotted by cocked pistols, gunshots and ghostly voices.
