On "Freaking Out The Neighborhood," Montreal garage-popper Mac DeMarco thoroughly engages with a kind of music that we can simply call 'smooth shit.' The intro, all Talking Heads-like, moves to verses that are jangly with sharp hooks, bubbled bass and stoned harmony. And really, if DeMarco is freaking out any neighborhood, that's not a place I want to be (because they are probably way uptight). His new album, 2, is out October 16 on Captured Tracks.
