PREMIERE: XXL - Vaire
XXL, besides being the size of the Slurpee I’m currently lusting after, is also the band crossbred by experimental indie acts Xiu Xiu and Larsen. Each pioneering on its own; together as XXL they take mechanical mood pop to a whole new level. Consider “Vaire,” which wheedles on for three minutes before moaning vocals join the cacophony of chiptune-like chords, maracas, slinkees and bleary guitars. Is it post-rock? Electro-psych? Nu new wave? Who can even tell any more? All we know is that we’re buzzed for their next album Düde, out through Tin Angel on 8/21.
