We’re always agog when we hear a new artist and he sounds like he’s from the early ‘70s, especially when his voice is one of import and experience, maintaining that quality even as he croons oh-so-mortally about a “Black Domino Box” he got from a friend. But hey, maybe that’s how lo-fi Welsh artists roll these days? Putting out kind of folksy, kind of sing-song-y, entirely enjoyable summer park tunes that defy time. Or maybe that’s just H. Hawkline. Hear his hooded-eye preview to the upcoming Black Domino Box EP (co-produced by Gruff Rhys), and see what we mean. If dude added some scratches and smears into the production, the whole thing would read like a dusty B-side we found in our cool uncle’s attic.
