Carter and I should do a music-based version of Even Stevphen, because I so believe the opposite about 2012. Return to basics? We don’t have room for basic on my lists, ya heard. No, no. 2012 thus far has been a return to the ridiculous and I am loving it. A$AP Rocky? Yes. Azealia Banks? Yep. Riff Raff? You better believe it. Sure, there’s great songwriting in the yelping lilt of Nurses, the beach dream of St. Lucia, the rum-shaking righteousness of The Phenomenal Handclap Band, the weirdness of Meiko and The Crystal Method making it work. And yet. So, too, exists Sébastien Tellier’s glitter-genital dance orgy, Diplo’s ass-clapping rally and the mere existence of 2 Chainz, the culmination of which is more than enough to counterpoint. 2012 is the time to be a heathen. Isn’t it all going to end in December anyhow? Do you and do dumb while you still can.
