Dios mío.The video for When Saints Go Machine single “Mannequin” feels like a twisty Danish homage to Tool, what with its upsetting keyhole animation, dark corners and broken dreams fading into television snow. So suffice it to say that the song itself, while lovely and plucky and melodic, is kinda messed up. Like it makes you remember suppressed angst and pain and when old people told you death is beautiful in its way. The same could be said for “Mannequin.” Planningtorock’s remix adds a ray of hope to the mix with the addition of slasher chimes and slams, pure moods FX and altered, accelerated vocals. Still creepy, though there are a few sonic reprieves where you feel as if you might escape the monstrous synthpop beneath, right before it devours you whole.
