It would be crazy if The Drowning Men, an Oceanside, CA group formed back in 2006, didn’t become huge when its second album, All Of The Unknown, gets released on July 17 via Borstal Beat Records. The band, which recorded the effort with producer Billy Mohler at Hurley Studios, makes smart, thoughtful indie rock numbers that resonate with a working man’s grit (probably because they are working men when not playing music). “Smile,” one of the album’s more pensive tracks, showcases the group’s artful songwriting and penchant for subtly catchy melodies. It’s what would happen if The Gaslight Anthem lived by the beach in Southern California.
