Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ has enough of a throwback ethos to please the New York heads that resist evolution, but he also fits nicely amongst renaissance artists like A$AP Rocky or Odd Future. 1999 should be his first big moment – the first mixtape, the first full statement of how he intends to shape a rap career and find his lane. Spitting over beats from DOOM and Dilla amongst others, seems poised to become one of the more hyped MCs in the game.
