This nighttime synthpop tune from Cold Cave is an immensely danceable, new-to-you b-side of the electro-goth group’s 2011 album Cherish The Light Years. Why, then, did this particular slice of emotive new wave never make it to the public before now? Perhaps the answer can be found in the hand-scribbled lyrics for “Believe In My Blood” which proclaim, among other things, ‘kiss me deep in the devil’s rain/the pain I see is just an illusion/the future is worthless without you/there’s no truth in life after youth.’ Dark stuff that we're guessing would be all too morbid for a release in colder months. But now, in the midst of a sun-drenched heatwave? Its destructive power imports a much-needed dance chill into many a bubblegum playlist. Fit it between two of your hundred renditions of "Call Me Maybe" and watch the fireworks.
