By combining hypnotic sampling, tribal cues and Animal Collective harmonies, Keepaway has used a blueprint that was enjoyable yet maybe a little predictable. Not so with this new one, "Cake," from the outfit's upcoming full-length debut Black Flute. It's an oddball mixture of hip-hop beats and flighty psychedelia boosted by an easy, bright funk feel and a chorus that screams anthem. The album arrives January 10, 2012 on Greedhead.
