Boston heavy rock band Junius, which formed in 2003, doesn’t exactly tackle facile topics. The group’s last disc, 2009’s The Martyrdom Of A Catastrophist, was inspired by the writing of Russian theorist Immanuel Velikovsky (kudos if you’re familiar). Junius’ newest effort, Reports From The Threshold Of Death, which comes out October 25 via Prosthetic Records, explores the question of what happens to the human soul after, well, you know. “A Reflection On Fire,” a sludgy art-rock number, is gloomy and deeply pensive -- the sort of song that generates a propulsive motion even as it’s intractably heavy.
