Every year you have that record you discover that gets the repeat button over and over (and over). For me, this year, it’s Stillwater, OK indie rock band Other Lives, whose second album Tamer Animals came out back in May via TBD Records. The album is an orchestral collection of thoughtfully evocative indie numbers that recall Andy LeMaster’s sadly ignored and now defunct rock band Now It’s Overhead. The album’s title track is moody and reflective, drawing up an almost cinematic air. There’s something distinctly melancholy about the whole thing, but it’s not so much sad as hopeful.
