Zola Jesus, a noisy industrial pop project from Nika Roza Danilova, had a breakout year in 2010. Whether it was through stunning torch songs like "Night" off the Stridulum EP or pushing a dark, bombastic sound to roll equally with legacy indie acts like Xiu Xiu as an opener, the progression hinted that something even bigger was on the way. Here's "Vessel" -- the first single from Zola Jesus' upcoming Conatus LP that arrives October 4 via Sacred Bones. Danilova's now-familiar wail, both utterly beautiful and demonic, is front-and-center, singing longingly and jarringly looped over upbeat organic drums, low-end piano and electronic clutter.
