Pylon, an excellent Athens post-punk band mostly known for its work in the early '80s, is the subject of a new DFA Records cover/remix single featuring both Deerhunter and Calvinist. Here's a bonus, digital-only remix of "Yo-Yo" by Calvinist, aka New Yorker pop music critic Sasha Frere-Jones, with a little help from Sleigh Bells' Alexis Krauss. Frere-Jones has clearly studied bass on an academic level, opting for low, rumbling tones that pack enough wallop and grit for Krauss to do her thing almost entirely isolated. As she gets more comfortable, harmonies pile on, and eventually a dance jam creeps out of the murky sonic depths.
