Los Angeles songwriter Devon Williams knows that a lovely guitar jangle never goes out of style. On "Your Sympathy," Williams' first single for Slumberland, there's guitars and hooks galore with inflections of Elliott Smith, Wild Nothing and bands from Slumberland's influential '90s roster. As a writer, Williams shows clear talent for time-honored indie power-pop that's both memorable and instantly catchy. Writing a sturdy pop song with bridges and hooks is something of a lost art, but you can count Williams' voice as one to watch. His debut album, Euphoria, comes August 30.
