Houston rap legend Pimp C sadly passed away three-and-a-half years ago, but the rapper/producer was so prolific that his music lives on. "Grippin' On The Wood" features Bun B, the other half of his storied rap duo UGK, and the contributions of rising star Big K.R.I.T. The track, off of Pimp C's posthumous album Still Pimpin, out July 12th on Rap-A-Lot, is an exemplary showcase of his talents and sound, with dewy organs, chittering wah guitar, and earthy bass coiling around a skittering drum beat. And all three MCs drop dynamite verses, with Pimp C's inimitable alto and rhythmic delivery persistently shouting a brain-burrowing chorus.
