The duo of Hisham Bharoocha and Ben Vida wondrously loop exotic, ethereal instrumentation in their experimental music outfit Soft Circle — but it's difficult to imagine how their music might fit in a hip-hop context. Then again, if anyone is redefining what a "hip-hop context" is, it's Beans. The rapper who released the brain-boggling End It All earlier this year (and still available on Anticon) is now the recipient of this digital world music remix, with computerized steel drums, galloping percussion, and croaking, gravelly bass. Patches of shimmery synth-work are complemented by Beans' fractured rhyming and the vocals of TV On The Radio vocalist Tunde Adebimpe, who even flies solo for a brief stretch in the middle, all alone with nothing more than the pulse of a drum beat.
