Vetiver once took a backseat to peers like Devandra Banhart and Joanna Newsom, but over time, band leader Andy Cabic and cohorts have crafted an ideal indie pop act with strong songwriting, production and instrumental flourishes. "Wonder Why," off the band's new Sub Pop album The Errant Charm, is all chugging bass, complementary piano and guitar melodies and the sort of charming back-porch strumming that's hard to fake. Here, Vetiver vies for pop-rock purity in the vein of Big Star. Try to get it out of your head.
