Strong Killings is a Seattle trio doing a lot of things right. While they may attempt to paint themselves loud, proud and punk, the music reveals a songwriting talent that negates claims of simplicity. "Annals of Animals" puts on display Nate Mooter's vocal strength, reminiscent at times of Dischord's later output. It is accessible almost to the point of pop without losing the scale climbing and short and sweet length that keep it a punk standard. Grab the group's debut LP July 19 on Don't Stop Believin'.
