Jaw-tiring rhymes? Extraterrestrial beats? A flipbook of bizarre imagery? No, this is not a found-footage videotape of old sci-fi films, it's Hail Mary Mallon, the new rap triumvirate consisting of Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic, and DJ Big Wiz. The former Def Jux labelmates are now on Rhymesayers, which will release the trio's debut, Are You Gonna Eat That?, in physical form on June 7th (the digital is already available, and you can purchase it here). This unreleased remix of "Garfield" by producer Edison does exactly what it says it does: Bends and warps and squishes the music that perfectly mirrors the bending and warping and squishing of words performed by Aesop and Sonic. As the two syllable- and consonant-shooting hitmen rattle off images and pronunciation acrobatics, Edison drops atonal tones, ground-bashing drums, and fuzz-filled bass lines to rock the foundation underneath them, creating a kaleidoscopic array of industrial-related sounds for a b-boy-guided tour through your local thesaurus.
