Instead of living at the beach, Fort Lean just wants to visit. Channeling the morose textures of The Walkmen on a heavy dose of exuberant indie pop a la Girls, this new Brooklyn band brings a perfect punch for Memorial Day grilling. The group, which describes itself as "five old friends tired of working shit jobs," self-released its first EP, Fort Lean, via Bandcamp on April 13. "Beach Holiday" feels like an old friend, merging hoarse, wailing vocals with a familiar guitar treble, subtle synth swells and unhinged drumming. Fort Lean plays at Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn on June 4.
