Com Truise, the moniker of producer Seth Haley, calls his music “mid-fi synth-wave, slow motion funk,” so we’ll go with that as a description of what he sounds like. The truth is “Polyhurt,” from the EP Fairlight, a precursor to Haley’s debut LP, Galactic Melt, out July 5 from our friends Ghostly International, isn’t so easy to pigeonhole. What starts as a slow 90’s throwback with echo-y keyboards and a beat as slow as the plot of Vanilla Sky (sorry, but we had to throw in one Tom Cruise analogy for good measure), transcends into a churning symphony of melodies and hooks piling on top of one another, the song a constant progression that is over before you know what hit you.
