This Alias remix with Yoni Wolf of Why? of Sole And The Skyrider Band’s “Hello Cruel World” is joyously upsetting. The production has a murky sound, like the track is being played underwater. It fits perfectly with the words, kind of half-rapped half-sung, mostly about drowning in the pressures of the quotidian, and could give Morrissey a run for his money in terms of pessimism (“Why is the day so short and life so long?”). Also, any song that includes the couplet “human life is cruel short and brutish/wish I could have a dollar every time I felt 'et tu Brutus'” is a winner in our book. Seriously, there just isn’t enough emo hashtag rap that references Julius Caesar.
