Until now, Gang Gang Dance's music has defied easy categorization, and new album Eye Contact, out May 9th in the UK and May 10th stateside via 4AD , is no different. Take "MindKilla," the most recent single off of the album: The song is part coldwave, part old-school house, part ambient, part wheedling spirit goddess, and maybe even part reggaetón. It's also enchanting, a bubbling cauldron of cushioned percussion, neon splashes, and the extraplanetary vocals of frontwoman Lizzi Bougatsos. As warped as it is dance-inducing, "MindKilla" is, like all of Gang Gang Dance's music, "experimental" only because no one really knows just what to call it. They just know that it rules.
