DOWNLOAD: Sleepies – Sludge River Mouth

“Sludge River Mouth,” the new song by the paradoxically named Sleepies, a raucous punk band from Brooklyn, begins with a crash of drums that kick and march right through the middle of your skull. Singer Thomas Seely has a great Johnny Rotten snarl, and the guitars are as crisp and tight as anything off Rockets to Russia, but, convenient as they are, the touchstones of 70's punk hardly feel sufficient enough for what’s really going on here musically. The surprising bridge halfway through—with Seely singing, “Wait in line ‘cause everybody wants one!”—signals a change in melody that turns the song into a suite in miniature, even though everything is still all attitude and clocks in at just under three minutes.
