Hot on the heels of Black Devil Disco Club's recently released Circus is this remix of single "To Ardent" by Grovesnor, aka erstwhile Hot Chip drummer Rob Smoughton. Keeping the fragile, curvy vocals of guest Nancy Sinatra relatively free of effects, Grovesnor nonetheless fusses with the musical settings. The track has some of Hot Chip's small, twinkly electronic sounds, but it's applied in such a way that the overall sound possesses the allure of plush, sleek disco. Yet the music slyly avoids conventionality with its surging, laser-coated guitar licks, bouncy clavichords, and a keyboard riff that sounds like early '80s Steve Winwood. With its sundry hallmarks of varying eras of pop, Grovesnor transforms Black Devil Disco Club's original into a potpourri of some of pop music's dreamiest sounds.
