DOWNLOAD: True Womanhood – Dark Rift (Pictureplane Cover)

It’s too easy to make a cover that sounds superfluous, but True Womanhood strike a perfect balance between faithfulness and making someone else’s song their own on this rendition of Pictureplane’s “Dark Rift.” The choice of song alone is interesting. The original, a murky dance track with nearly subliminal vocals, is not really the most obvious song for a young band to tackle (this isn’t “Free Bird” we’re talking about). But “Dark Rift” becomes something of an anthem anyway in the hands of the electronic duo (neither of which are women, as it were). The cover is slowed down, all the cloudiness of Pictureplane’s processed vocals made organic with singer Thomas Redmond pulling the words out of obscurity through a sleek performance. “I have seen the stars align,” he sings, clear as a night sky.
