It's been said that Diamond Doves are The Band to Elvis Perkins' Bob Dylan. While the outfit is comprised of the members of Elvis Perkins In Dearland (sans namesake, of course) and have played the horns section for the likes of Bon Iver and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Diamond Doves ain't no backing band. "Club Night" is the sweet dream of record store rat—traces of 60s guitar noodling found in Tropicalia to soul horns to the Animal Collective-style vocal experimentation, braised with psychedelia. Genre-melding is a tricky sport, the collage can get so messy that all the elements are overrun by the glue keeping it together, but this trio has found the right synthesis to lay it all out as smooth as silk.
