The sort of pop music The Sound of Arrows make—songs that are full of longing, vaguely dance-y and framed in slow-mo videos shot in utopia—needs to have something else about it. It can't just be weak and sappy. Luckily, Swedish duo Stefan Storm and Oskar Gullstrand realise this, and on their original version of "Nova" the pair's vocal vulnerability is counterbalanced by heroic, horizon-charging synths that flare up in the mix like tracers. Esben & The Witch don't dampen the heroism, but theirs is a quieter valour: this remix kicked along by scattering, portentous drums and scattered, portentous electronic flotsam. It's a far cry from the remix Stefan and Oskar put together for Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" last year, but that's OK—they'll have their own chance to shine when their album arrives later this year through Geffen. "Nova"'s out as a single April 25.
