Man, life was so simple when I was 15 years old. The weather was always hot, girls never wanted to kiss me, and music mostly sounded like this. While the rest of his Bloc Party bandmates use their day job hiatus to explore their Nineties pasts (Russell Lissack was listening to Ash, Kele Okereke was listening to dance hits compilations) Matthew C H Tong releases "Present & Correct" to let the world know he was once in love with My Vitriol, My Blood Valentine and early Blur. Despite its noise, though, I've never heard Matt sound so carefree—out from behind his kit, his vocal whines and tremors with consummate confidence. Aptly, this will arrive on April 16, as one side of a split 7" with Wet Paint in aid of Record Store Day. Does life get much more simple than record stores and putting music out with your friends? Man I should never have decided to grow up.
