This month, Tom Waits was inducted to the Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland. In his acceptance speech he said, "Ya know, songs are really just very interesting things to be doing with the air." His humor is one of the things his fans adore him for, but his ability to turn whimsy on its head is another. Maggie Bjorklund is clearly influenced by the sweeter bits of Waits' catalogue and kicks it folksy. On "Intertwine" she purrs over collaborator Mark Lanegan (The Screaming Trees, Queens Of The Stone Age) and his deeper crooning. Soft percussion and country licks round out the cut. Her album Coming Home is out now on Bloodshot.
