You know what one of my favourite songs of all time is? This one. As easy to love as it is hard to type, Pulp's "F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E." is my go-to track for whenever I feel I need to remind myself why life is good, and for the most part that's because of the way its chord progression leaps out of a darkness that twists my gut up in knots. A similar pattern emerges in the original version of Metronomy's new single "The Look", albeit one that's more subtle and creeping (subtle and creeping the things that Metronomy's pop music tends to do best). In his infinite wisdom, Ghostpoet decides to eradicate that chord progression altogether, returning the track to a murk like the one Pulp's track loiters in; pushing the thing along with percussive, Burial-esque wood block knocks and electronic hiss and spit. It works very, very well, which is a little depressing for me and my sacred chords, but great for you and your ears. The original of this arrives on April 4, the new Metronomy album The English Riviera a week later, both through Because.
