I've seen Crystal Stilts in three separate basements, and I'm not sure I ever want to hear them above ground. Their music sounds best in the sweaty underbelly of urban storefronts and apartment complexes. And it sounds even better after 2 AM, when bleary eyes are struggling to sustain vision while eyelids fight to close. The Brooklyn quintet already has a brilliant self-titled EP and an equally terrific debut album, Alight Of Night. On April 11th (UK) and 12th (USA), the band will release their follow-up, In Love With Oblivion, on Slumberland/Fortuna POP! Judging from "Through The Floor," it doesn't sound like the band has shifted course too radically. The vocals are still an incomprehensible, wailing croon, the guitars still ring and squall, and the drums are bashed with a reverberating boom. The Crystal Stilts are neither the opening act nor the main attraction—they are the closing act, the band that, in the jingle-jangle morning, comes following you.
