Bay Area group, League510, are part of a new sound coming out of their hometown dubbed, Town Techno, which, put simply, is a combination of electro and hip-hop. But a listen to "Any Day Now" challenges any easy classification. There's the high-pitched squeal of a sustained guitar lick, a slimy Auto-Tuned chorus, randomly changing tempos on the beat—which skips from straight hip-hop to electro to quasi-jungle—and bubbly sound effects. It's a track where the best way to get from A to B is through peel-outs, pratfalls and curlicues. And it's enhanced by its lyrics, which advocate taking action in a world where everything is falling apart. A prescient message for these times, and a fittingly daring one for music this pleasingly unconventional and strange. League510's EP, Believe In The League, is out now on Clear Label.
