A fitting finish for one of Brooklyn's finest, "Downtown Girl" is a short and bittersweet number off Tough Knuckles' final full length, out tomorrow on Famous Class. A band that mastered the art of boozy slacker pop, they elevated their charming brand of lo-fi with high-energy and unpredictable (what drugs were they on, whose clothes were coming off) live shows. Vannawhite marks the group's farewell after the sudden passing of Ariel Panero last December, the skilled guitarist known just as fondly around NYC for his masterful promoting and dedication to the DIY scene. The album's closing track, "Lonely Island", is the last song Panero recorded and a testament to his and the band's legacy both.
