Girls Names is a Belfast trio that captures the spirit of the city, and we're not talking the Jameo-inspired belting of "Molly Malone". When I was last there, it was rainy, grey and wrapped in an eerie quiet, and the northern landscape on the whole doesn't seem to fluctuate much from this mood. Enter "Seance On A Wet Afternoon", a haunted pop gem too tightly crafted to call lo-fi but with that sense of raw charm still in place. The warm 60s via 80s-fashioned fuzz is successfully countered by a darker lyrical narrative (achieved without going camp, thankfully) and gloomy reverb for the distinctive take on pop we've come to expect from Slumberland's roster. Dead To Me is out April 26.
