Chicago-based Closed Sessions is a relatively new company that combines the talents of recording studio Soundscape Recordings, online music magazine Ruby Hornet, and artist DJ RTC. For their latest release, they were able to recruit the specialities of Gary-based rapper Freddie Gibbs, who by this point needs no introduction. He and rapper on the rise YP lace a jacked-up flip of Isaac Hayes' "Bumpy's Lament" (also sampled by Dr. Dre on "Xxplosive" and Erykah Badu on "Bag Lady") with hypersyllabic, melodic verses. The track is enough evidence that the simple marriage of a hot beat and skilled flow can be the most effective way to craft a great song.
