Many moons ago, I worked at an online record store and packed and shipped many-an-album on the daily and sometimes those albums came with free swag. When I'm From Barcelona's first album Let Me Introduce My Friends (the most perfect title for a band whose line-up goes way over the four- or five-piece norm), a kazoo with their name on it was sent with each order. But it wasn't kitsch and that's clear when listening to "Get In Line". They're the kind of band who embody fun—folk with funk bass and joyful synths (and usually a huge horn section). Even on this song that is about not conforming, it sings rebellion with ebullience. It would be a disservice to call these Swedes (another piece of their silly puzzle, as they are certainly not from Barcelona) a gang, but at twenty-seven members, it's hard not to envision that they don't at least have a band handshake. You can get inon more of the group fun on April 19 with their third album Forever Today. They recorded significant parts of the record live in the studio with every member. "Something happens when we come together," says bandleader, Emanuel Lungren. "We wanted to capture that energy on tape." And that unity is fully on display in this track.
