DOWNLOAD: Wire - Adapt

You heard the news? Apparently rock music is dead. Seems strange to fling guitars off the side of the boat we're all floating along in while Wire are still making records. Maybe if Glee had revived "Dot Dash" or "Outdoor Miner" instead of that Journey song the figures would read differently, but then Wire have never been ones to hoist the flag for all the bravado and fireworks of R&R blowouts, and "Adapt" should perhaps be seen as half lament, half instructional: a message from Darwin the London band have been trying to transmit to revivalist dullards for decades now. Wherever your genre loyalties lie, "Adapt" is a great song, a drift of liquid guitars and wan vocals that'll send you on your way with a weird, nervous optimism in the pit of your gut. Wire's new album Red Barked Tree came out today.
